Music to ears: Malignani school reached the top at the national session of EYP ( European Youth Parliament) in Riva del Garda (Trentino, Italy)  last February. Lorenzo Paravano( 4C LSA) did his best in ENVI ( Committee on the Environment, Public Health, Food Safety), Luca Biasinutto(4C LSA)  distinguished himself in AFET ( committee on Foreign Affairs), Anna Espositooffered her fruitful contribution in LIBE I ( Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice, Home affairs). 

Consequently, all three were selected to join the international EYP in Trier, Germany, in April 2018. “Where the stars align”is the exciting motto of the Trier conference: 27 stars form the European flag, these stars  shine bright in the hope of a peaceful and solidly united Europe. We are honoured to send our best  school representatives as delegates of Italy in Europe. The best youth, indeed!

Rachele Pertoldi(3C LSA) must also be mentioned for two brilliant performances: firstly, best score as Malignani delegate in FEMM ( Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality) in Riva del Garda; secondly, best delegate at UNWOMENCommittee during the FAMUN conference in Amersfoort, the Netherlands last February. Rachele represented the position of Island at the simulation of the Model United Nations. The topics she passionately discussed were the following:

·      Promoting the presence of women in science and politics, 

·      Measures to end violence against women,

·      In favour of the economic independence of women and the equal distribution of incomes. 

Last but not least, Teresa Gutierrezand Giulia Del Torrewere also active students in this year’s Malignani PEG team. In fact, comparing the scores of the Malignani childrenin time, scores assigned by a jury of PEG experts, we can conclude optimistically that our students are getting better and better. Out of 6 delegates, the average Malignani score was the following: 

·     in 2014         1.67

·     in  2016        2.34

·     in  2017        2,73

·     in  2018        3.01

The average score of the Italian students ( 72 altogether from 12 different Italian schools) was 2.54 in 2014 and 2.95 in 2018. The minimum assessment score is 1, the maximum is 5. The middle assessment score  of  3  means that the condidates are interested in the PEG activities and participate constructively, showing commitment and competence. Such candidates are qualified to start joining international  PEG meetings. Let’s go PEG-ing!

Arturo Malignani would be proud of you!

Questi cinque anni di superiori sono stati per me un’esperienza fantastica, soprattutto per le attività extrascolastiche a cui ho potuto partecipare: mi riferisco alle 5 sessioni PEG (Parlamento Europeo Giovani) e alle 2 sessioni MUN (Model United Nations) svoltesi sia in Italia che all’estero. Queste significative esperienze hanno forgiato la mia vita e orientato la mia scelta universitaria.

All’inizio delle superiori ero infatti una ragazza quattordicenne particolarmente timida e insicura delle proprie capacità. Quando mi è stato offerto di aderire a questi progetti ero terrorizzata e propensa a rinunciare, ma grazie alla grande spinta entusiasta della professoressa Savonitto D. ho deciso di provare. È stata la miglior decisione della mia vita. Dire che sono state esperienze utili sarebbe riduttivo, oggi mi sento cambiata, in meglio naturalmente.

Ora sono fiduciosa nelle mie capacità, sicura di me, tenace e forte. La mia percezione del mondo è radicalmente mutata, adesso so che posso raggiungere ogni obiettivo se mi impegno veramente: al mio sguardo di diciottenne  nulla è impossibile. Quello che è cambiato in sunto è il mio approccio verso le cose. Inoltre questi progetti di respiro europeo e mondiale insegnano  delle metodologie di lavoro efficaci trasferibili in ogni campo di apprendimento: per esempio la ricerca documentale fondata su fonti attendibili e comparabili. 

I giochi di ruolo MUN e PEG stimolano la curiosità ad ampliare la propria conoscenza del mondo, l’entusiasmo per il dibattito e lo scambio di idee fondate su fatti e dati, la volontà di cambiare il mondo partendo da se stessi.  È poi da ricordare come la padronanza della lingua inglese aumenti esponenzialmente, perché ciò che si impara a scuola viene messo in pratica attraverso il dialogo, l’argomentazione, la mediazione.  

Non posso dunque fare altro che consigliare queste attività di dibattito a tutti,  non solo ai giovani  più estroversi, ma anche alle belle teste pensanti ma timide e timorose di esprimersi in pubblico. Mi rivolgo a tutti gli studenti del Malignani e dedico loro questo messaggio: “ Ciò che spaventa va affrontato, ciò che si ignora va esplorato perché questi peercorsi di ricerca lasciano il segno, ci strutturano. Non abbiate paura del nuovo!”

Vorrei infine rivolgere uno speciale ringraziamento alla professoressa Donatella Savonitto che durante questi cinque anni mi ha sostenuta e spinta a volare alto, dando il meglio di me stessa. Mi ha aiutata a non aver paura delle situazioni nuove e a credere in me stessa. Grazie di cuore, prof!
